Eight Spring Home Improvements

Gear up for summer with this simple list of home improvements. What do you do to prepare your home for the warm weather? Do you have any additional home improvements your like to do during the spring? Comment below!

Clean Your Gutters – Small twigs, dirt, and leaves can clog your water drainage system, potentially damaging your gutter, downspout, and/or your home’s exterior. Remove any debris collected over fall and the winter months from your gutters and downspouts. Use a hose to wash away dirt particles.

Check Your Roof for Damage – Long winters have the potential to damage your roof. As the snow melts, check for any potential damage to your roof or your home’s exterior. Water spots on your walls or ceiling are a good indicator of home exterior or roof damage.

Freshen Up Your Paint – Looking to liven up your home? Consider adding a new coat of paint to give your home a fresh, spring makeover.

Power Wash Your Deck – Put down the hose and use pressurized water to clean your deck. Power washing is more efficient than scrubbing your deck by hand or with a hose. It’s also less likely to damage the wood.

Attend to Your Yard – Prepare your yard for spring time. Rake up any branches and leaves. Notice a bald spot on your lawn? Lay down some grass seed. Consider aerating your lawn. Aerating your lawn allows for grass seeds and nutrients to penetrate the soil, assisting lawn regrowth in the springtime.

Inspect Your HVAC System – You should check your HVAC at least twice a year, once in the fall and once in the spring. Ensure the air circulates properly throughout your house to prevent mold growth and seasonal allergens from affecting your family. You’ll also want to make sure your air-conditioner works before the warm weather hits.

Spring Clean Your Home – Set aside some time to spring clean your home. Throw out or donate any clutter that may have collected over the winter months. Reorganize your kitchen and closets. Deep clean your home by vacuuming beneath furniture and giving your floors a good scrub. For more spring cleaning tips, click here to see our spring cleaning blog.
