Carpet and hardwood are two of the most popular chooses for flooring material in today’s homes. But, which one will work best for you? Both have their advantages and disadvantages. In the more recent years, homes have been incorporating more alternative flooring options like linoleum and carpet in place of hardwood. Carpeting (depending on the style) will be significantly less per square foot than hardwood flooring. If you’re considering hardwood flooring, you may want to plan a bigger budget. While carpets need replacing every so often, with proper upkeep and care, you can extend the life of your carpet. However, hardwood floors are one of the longest lasting floor options. With the proper care, a hardwood floor may be worth the investment.

 

Comfort

Hardwood floors will not be as soft as carpet. If you’re concerned about the effect or discomfort hardwood floors will have on your feet, you may want to choose carpeting. Additionally, people often state that hardwood floors make the house a little louder, while carpet absorbs sound.

People generally consider hardwood floors to have a more classic appearance. Most hardwood floors blend in perfectly with house décor, whereas carpeting may not invoke that level of timelessness. With hardwood floors, you have the option of choosing different types of woods and stains. Rugs can be easily changed and removed by the home owner, where as removing carpet may require some pervious experience or special skill. If you choose to install carpentry, you will not be able to enjoy having both attributes of a carpet and a hardwood floor.

  1. Another option to consider is laminate that looks like hardwood. It’s a little more forgiving in terms of spills but is still durable and hard-wearing, unlike carpet which can start to look nappy after a few years.
