If you talk with anyone in trades they will say that the profession is always in need of more workers. Steve Koktavy, part-owner of Koktavy & Daleiden Painting says “ It’s a great time to enter the trade because there is a significant lack of skilled labor currently and looking forward there’s isn’t a lot of new workers entering the trades.” 

We had the chance to talk with Steve Koktavy and learn more about his profession and how you can get involved in trades.

What is your name and job title at the company?

 My name is Steve Koktavy, and I am part owner of Koktavy & Daleiden Painting.

What Skill Sets Are Great For This Trade? 

 The best skills for this trade is to have excellent attention to detail, a steady hand, and to be a good communicator.

What Type Of Person/Personality/Traits Are Great For This Trade? 

 The best painters I have had working around are patient and have the ability also to be able to change plans at any time.

Why Is This A Great Time To Get Into This Trade? 

 It’s a great time to enter the trade because there is a significant lack of skilled labor currently and looking forward there’s isn’t a lot of new workers entering the trades.

What Is It Like Working With Other Tradesman On Projects? 

 Working with other tradesmen can be very enjoyable, you have the chance to meet a lot of new people on a very regular basis, and get a lot of practice at working as a team to be able to make sure projects get completed at a high level and on time.

Are You Hiring? If So, How Does Someone Apply Or Get In Contact With You? 

 We are not currently hiring. 

How Does Someone Get Started In This Trade? 

The best way to get a start in the painting trade is to find a company looking for apprentices.  The most popular method is starting with a summer apprenticeship and seeing if it a good fit for you.
