- Planning is expensive, but a lot less expensive than the consequences of not planning
- Raw land costs and basic utility installation, such as your water/well, septic, and power
- Extending, and re-extending, or pushing up the project deadline
- Additions or changes to the original plan
- Elaborate custom design
- Fancy finishes or finishes added after the fact
- Permit and plan approval delays
- Good quality labor and materials, in most case the old saying “You get what you pay for” is true
- Changes to regulations
- Energy efficient options cost more up front, but save you in the long run
