Cupola at Mantorville

100_1101 Our workers have enjoyed the nice fall weather on our project at the Dodge County Courthouse in Mantorville. We were able to complete the painting of the exterior wood trim work with the good weather. The county lead abatement contractors did an excellent job of removing the old lead paint on the trims. We have also installed new white clad metal on the gable end roof returns. Together with the fresh new paint the building is really starting to look refurbished.

100_1106 Our attention is now turning to the cupola. Workers removed all the existing roof coverings on the cupola dome. We will be installing new copper roof material on the dome, as well as new support columns and railings around the cupola base. The base will be protected by new copper flashings under the columns. During our work we discovered that the cupola has loosened up over the years, so we need to add some structural support to keep it from moving during high wind conditions. The cupola sits high on the roof and the building sits high on a hill, so it does get rather windy there.

The structural repairs in side the attic have mainly been completed. The structural100_1107 engineer was on site yesterday inspecting our work and checking to see if any additional repairs need to be made. It was a real challenge installing the new beams, rafters and other structural support members in these tight quarters.
