Bridge Dedication

Bridge Dedication 001 Saturday the City of Northfield held a dedication ceremony for the new trail bridge over the Cannon River. It was a glorious morning to be out and about and lots of area folks showed up for the event. It gave us all a fine opportunity to chat with each other about trails, nature walks, the river, ArtSwirl, and other things going on in Northfield.

Bridge Dedication 007 The new bridge has been named the Peg Prowe Bridge, honoring the significant work that Peg has done to keep the Milltowns Trail moving forward. (Peg is in the center of this photo, in white shirt) She has been a tireless worker and advocate for safe biking in the Northfield area. When I served in the Minnesota Legislature Peg was always ready to come and testify in a committee meeting on a moments notice. I thoroughly enjoyed working with her to secure some of the funding for the bridge.

Bridge Dedication 005 Mayor Mary Rossing spoke to the crowd and identified the work that has gone into the Milltowns Trail, and also noted the work that is yet to be done. When completed, the Milltowns trail will link the Sakatah Singing Hills trail and the Cannon Valley trail, so that it will be possible to bike from Mankato to Red Wing on a state trail.

Bridge Dedication 008 While working on Milltowns trail funding I was given a couple of metal trail signs. I brought them along to the dedication and gave them to Mayor Rossing, shown here with city administrator Joel Walinski, so that they could be used on the trail segments.
