The last couple of weeks have been tough on us as we work on the ArTech Charter School expansion. It seems we have fought rain about every couple of days. And not just small amounts….we’ve had 2″ and 3″ rains wipe out our excavation work twice. But, the past few days have been good and today we managed to place concrete for the building foundation.
The building design utilizes a grade beam foundation. This is essentially a big chunk of concrete that runs around the perimeter of the building. It is reinforced with many steel bars for strength. We set bolts in the beam to fasten the steel building columns to the foundation. We also are placing a lot of insulation around and under the foundation to keep the building warm.
