Meet The Team – Jodi

When did you start working for Northfield Construction Company?

I started August 4, 1986 as a temporary fill-in because one of the owners (Arnie Nelson) and his wife Jeanette (the NCC bookkeeper) were going to be gone for two weeks to visit their son who was teaching in Japan. My son was 3 weeks old and they allowed me to bring him to work with me for those two weeks. After that, I was asked to come on staff full-time. I worked on drafting residential home plans for the company and did office duties, such as receptionist, filing, etc. In 1991 there was a change in ownership and the Nelsons were no longer with NCC. I was then asked to take on the role of book-keeper. My current job title is Financial Administrator. I process accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll and job cost tracking. I’m also involved in employee benefit administration and processing.

What’s your history in the industry?

My father was a carpenter by trade, so I have been around construction my whole life. I own power tools and do many of my own construction projects at my home. From 1982-1984, I attended DCTC in the Architectural Technology course. After graduation I worked for Bragonier Architects in Northfield from 1984-1985, doing architectural drafting. Many of the projects I worked on were for NCC.

What do you enjoy doing in your free time?

My husband Dean and I have been married since 2005. My husband is employed by Cemstone Products Company as a cement truck driver. I have one son, Aaron, who is 29 years old. He is currently a student at Mankato State University. We have two dogs: Bandit (a 12-year-old yellow lab) and Reggy (an 8-month-old Golden-Doodle).

In the summer, I enjoy my flower gardens and I love to go camping and fishing. In the winter I love to sew, and my main sewing consists of making doll clothes. At Christmas time, I purchase a few 18” dolls and package up dolls clothes and donate them to Toys for Tots.

What has been your favorite NCC project?

The John & MaryBeth Bremer house. I drew the plans for this house and it was interesting watching it go from paper to reality. It was a beautiful home.
