We have started a nice remodel and addition on the east side of Northfield. This will eventually be a significant expansion of the existing house as we will be constructing a two-story addition as part of our work. Our first task was to remove the existing attached one car garage. We cut the roof between the house and garage and used an excavator to demolish the garage. Then we excavated the area and installed a new foundation to support the expansion. We are using a ‘crawl space’ foundation for this expansion. Normally we use a full basement for a project like this, but in this case the owners felt they had ample storage in the existing basement and did not want a full basement. We still install high levels of insulation, drain tile, and a concrete floor in the crawl space so it stays clean and dry.
